As an attorney at the Employment Law Center of Maryland (ELC), Jani provides legal representation to Maryland employees facing workplace discrimination, harassment, wage theft, and wrongful termination. Drawing from her bilingual legal experience and background representing both injured workers and immigrants, Jani is committed to empowering all clients—regardless of background or language—to assert their rights and hold employers accountable under federal and Maryland employment law.
Before joining ELC, Jani served as a Judicial Law Clerk to Associate Judge Hiram E. Puig-Lugo at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, where she gained insight into judicial decision-making and trial practice. She also represented foreign nationals before the Executive Office of Immigration Review and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, advocating for clients in merits hearings and other complex immigration proceedings. She later litigated cases on behalf of injured claimants before the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission and the D.C. Department of Employment Services.
During law school, Jani clerked with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, supporting the representation of indigent clients in criminal matters. She also served as a Judicial Intern to Associate Judge Robert R. Rigsby at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. As a Student Attorney in the Civil Advocacy Clinic, she represented clients in civil hearings, advancing their interests and helping them navigate complex legal disputes.
An immigrant from Mexico and a proud mom, Jani spends her free time exploring the DMV area, traveling, and seeking out new experiences with her family—often accompanied by their dog, Don Quixote.
